Go into the rooms and follow it south and then east. It is extremely hard to miss the tree, and if you've been in the dungeon before, you should know the room as the tree is huge. After you collect the compass, return to Karn and he will give you a powerful new gauntlet to use called Gauntlets of Savagery.
