What is pink matter about
At once, we break the scene, and now Frank is falling into an unnamed and amorphous woman. Taken another way, however, the woman of this track is elevated. Moreover, we recognize Frank sees an overall Godliness in women and the pleasures we share with women. Sex goes from the physical to the sacred space.
The wandering Frank who opens this verse has been replaced by a fulfilled Frank Ocean, and his fulfillment comes from setting women free and appreciating their innate power. The world finally catches up with alternative artist Johnny Drille.
He breaks down his journey for Audiomack World. For the second verse, we return to Sensei, and we watch as Frank spars with the man. No longer lost and in need of his teachings, they come to blows, and we get the sense being with an unburdened woman has unlocked something in Frank. We get this sense from the first lines of the second verse, too, where Frank begins to question the sky and the stars. His questions border on being conspiratory, but their essence suggests, for lack of a better image, the sex he just had opened his mind.
Andre halts in the middle of his thoughts and dismisses them. His verbal caesura is short-lived as he is flooded by her once again. He makes remarks about her body, the fact that if they were in a different world, they could make things work, and how much he simply wants to slip into a different facet of existence with her. Here, there is an extreme ambiguity. They are searching for answers but are coming up null. Both Andre and Frank are adding blue to their palates, without a choice.
Andre is still hung up on this woman. To him, she is good in all of the worst ways possible and bad in all of the best ways possible. He curses her to damnation but quickly takes it all back. The repetition of these lines emphasizes how much turbulence Andre is going through while being infatuated with her. He continues with a clever pun that includes his collaborators name and rolls with it through an extended metaphor referencing a vessel.
The ocean represents the ample amount of love that he has for her. If the love is as good as he thinks it is, Andre feels as though he can get her to do anything that he wants her to. Swabbing the wood, walking the plank, and robbing the bank with no mask on and rusted revolver. Pink matter does not only represent the pleasures that exude from women, but the very quintessence of a mystery that sits right in front of you, inextricable. On top of all of the wonder held for these female beings, there is covetousness, blurred lines, and resistance.
